Quantum Mechanics
Whoever begins writing a book on quantum mechanics is struck by the breadth of the subject. In its applications first: atomic and molecular physics, nuclear physics, optics, solid state physics, theory of gases and liquids, elementary particles theory, almost all fields of contemporary physics are based on quantum mechanics. In its formulation, also, which borrows from many subfields of mathematics and reaches philosophical reflection as much as modern technology. The Wave Function
These are my own solutions to the problems in Introduction to Quantum Mechanics, 2nd ed. I have made every effort to insure that they are clear and correct, but errors are bound to occur, and for this I apologize in advance. I would like to thank the many people who pointed out mistakes in the solution manual for the first edition, and encourage anyone who finds defects in this one to alert me (griffith@reed.edu). I’ll maintain a list of errata on my web page (http://academic.reed.edu/physics/faculty/griffiths.html), and incorporate corrections in the manual itself from time to time. I also thank my students at Reed and at Smith for many useful suggestions, and above all Neelaksh Sadhoo, who did most of the typesetting. At the end of the manual there is a grid that correlates the problem numbers in the second edition with those in the first edition. David

THE MATHEMATICAL LANGUAGE OF QUANTUM THEORY
Quantum theory is not an easy subject to master. Trained in the everyday world of macroscopic objects like locomotives, elephants and watermelons, we are insensitive to the beauty of the quantum world. Many quantum phenomena are revealed only in carefully planned experiments in a sophisticated laboratory. Some features of quantum theory may seem contradictory and inconceivable in the framework set by our experience. Rescue comes from the language of mathematics. Its mighty power extends the limits of our apprehension and gives us tools to reason systematically even if our practical knowledge fails. Mastering the relevant mathematical language helps us to avoid unnecessary quantum controversies
