A history of the english language

This textbook is based on the requirements of the State Educational Standard of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the discipline of the history of the English language and the general laws of the existence of the language, the development of languages within the scope and content specified in the model curriculum for the subject specified in the undergraduate education. Mechanisms, causes, nature and types, the role of various factors in language development; history of ancient Germanic tribes and languages, phonetic and grammatical features of the English language; structural and functional aspects of modern Germanic languages and other similar issues were discussed in this coursebook. A great attention is paid to the main issues and problems of the history of the English language, migrations of Germanic tribes; the emergence of the Old English language, the Old English alphabet, and the phonetic processes such as convergence and divergence that occurred with vowels and consonants are discussed in detail. At the end of the textbook, the development of English vocabulary in the Middle Ages, the language of Shakespeare's time, and the main events of the formation of the current English language are described in a systematic way. Necessary guidance, recommendations and technological materials are given for the organization of seminar classes.
