Visibility algorithms in the plane

A human observer can effortlessly identify visible positions of geometric objects present in the environment. However, computation of visible sections of objects from the viewpoint of a computer (robot) that operates in a Euclidean environment and moves in a physical space is not easy. To address the visibility problem, efficient algorithms have been developed. This book presents state-of-the-art visibility algorithms in two dimensions. Specifically, various problems of planar visibility, such as visibility inside connected polygons, paths, and minimal visibility polygons are discussed. Several visibility properties are enhanced through various examples and illustrations. With over 290 figures and hundreds of exercises, this book is ideal for graduate students interested in the interface of computational geometry, as well as computer graphics and a reference for researchers working on algorithms, robotics, computational geometry, and computer vision.
