College Physics
A vector is a quantity that possesses both magnitude and direction. Examples of vector quantities are displacement, velocity, acceleration, and force. A vector quantity can be represented by an arrow drawn to scale. The length of the arrow is proportional to the magnitude of the vector quantity. The direction of the arrow represents the direction of the vector quantity.

THEORY AND PROBLEMS OF ELECTROMAGNETICS
The second edition of Schaum's Outline of Electromagnetics offers three new chapters in transmission lines, waveguides, and antennas. These have been included to make the book a more powerful tool for students and practitioners of electromagnetic field theory. I take pleasure here in thanking my colleagues M. L. Kult and K. F. Lee for their contribution of this valuable material. The basic approach of the first edition has been retained: "As in other Schaum's Outlines the emphasis is on how to solve problems. Each chapter consists of an ample set of problems with detailed solutions, and a further set of problems with answers, preceded by a simplified outline of the principles and facts needed to understand the problems and their solutions. Throughout the book the mathematics has been kept as simple as possible, and an abstract approach has been avoided. Concrete examples are liberally used and numerous graphs and sketches are given. I have found in many years of teaching that the solution of most problems begins with a carefully drawn sketch." Once again it is to my students-my former students that I wish to dedicate this book.

THEORY AND PROBLEMS OF BASIC ELECTRICITY
Explanations and step-by-step solutions are deliberately detailed so that the text can stand alone. Thus it also may be used as a home-study or reference book. A knowledge of basic algebra and trigonometry is assumed. Designed to provide a broad and deep background in the nature of electricity and the operation and application of electric circuits, the text uses numerous and easy-tofollow examples accompanied by diagrams. Starting with the physics of electric current flow, the book describes and analyzes both direct-current and alternating-current electric circuits, generators and motors, transformers, and measuring instruments. To assure correlation to modern practice and design, illustrative problems are presented in terms of commonly used voltages and current ratings, covering circuits and equipments typical of those found in today’s electrical systems.

ANALOG AND DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS
The objective of this book, like its previous edition, is to provide an introduction to the basic principles in analog and digital communications for advanced undergraduates in electrical or computer engineering. The assumed background is circuit analysis, and prior exposure to signals and systems course is helpful. The book can be used as a self-contained textbook or for self-study. Each topic is introduced in a chapter with numerous solved problems. The solved problems constitute an integral part of the text. In this edition, there are two chapters dealing with basic tools. These tools are then applied to next three chapters in analog communication systems, including sampling and digital transmission of analog signal. Probability, random variables, and random processes are introduced in Chapters 6 and 7 and applied to the chapters that follow. Effect of noise in analog communication systems is covered in Chapter 8. Chapter 9 treats the effect of noise in digital communication and the subject of optimum reception. Information theory and source coding is treated in Chapter 10. A distinctive feature of this edition is the new chapter, Chapter 11, on error control coding, including linear block codes, cyclic codes, and convolutional codes.

ELECTRONIC DEVICES AND CIRCUITS
The subject matter of electronics may be divided into two broad categories: the application of physical properties of materials in the development of electronic control devices and the utilization of electronic control devices in circuit applications. The emphasis in this book is on the latter category, beginning with the terminal characteristics of electronic control devices. Other topics are dealt with only as necessary to an understanding of these terminal characteristics. This book is designed to supplement the text for a first course in electronic circuits for engineers. It will also serve as a refresher for those who have previously taken a course in electronic circuits. Engineering students enrolled in a nonmajors’ survey course on electronic circuits will find that portions of Chapters 1 to 7 offer a valuable supplement to their study. Each chapter contains a brief review of pertinent topics along with governing equations and laws, with examples inserted to immediately clarify and emphasize principles as introduced. As in other Schaum’s Outlines, primary emphasis is on the solution of problems; to this end, over 350 solved problems are presented.

Theory and Problems of Astronomy
The purpose of this Outline is to serve as a supplement to a basic astronomy text. Much of the material here is abbreviated, and students should use this book as a guide to the key concepts in modern astronomy, but not as an all-inclusive resource. Topics covered range from planetary astronomy to cosmology, in the modern context. The first chapter covers most of the phsyics required to obtain a basic understanding of astronomical phenomena. The student will most likely come back to this chapter again and again as they progress through the book. The order of the topics has been set by the most common order of these topics in textbooks (near objects to far objects), but many of the chapters are quite independent, with few references to previous chapters, and may be studied out of order.
